7 Action Steps to Achieve Business Success

Whether you’re starting a new business or running an existing one, it’s important to develop and apply a strategic plan. The seven steps outlined below will help you create that plan, which in turn will help you achieve your goals and become more successful in your business.

1. Research

Research is the foundation of your business, so it’s no wonder that it's the first step on our list. Researching the market and researching your competition are vitally important to any business.

When you’re researching your customers, remember that they don't know what they want until you show them. Your job as a researcher is to observe them and understand their needs, desires, and motivations in order to give them what they want before they even realize it themselves! If you haven't done any customer research yet then do that now by asking some questions like "What would make me buy from this store instead of another?" or "Why do people stop shopping here?"

2. Analyze

The first step in your business success journey is to understand the problem. You need to know why people are buying, why they aren't buying, how much they're willing to spend, and where they spend it. You also need to understand what your competitors are doing, who the influencers are, and how you can reach out and connect with them.

Once you've got this information gathered together, you'll be able to create a solution that will solve all of these problems for your customers and keep them coming back for more.

3. Conclude on your findings

As you reflect on your findings, you may want to think about how they could be applied more broadly. For example, if you discovered that your customers were interested in a particular service but not yet ready to purchase it, what would it take for them to give in and do so? If the answer is “a better price” or “more information,” then consider how those changes could actually happen—and whether or not they should be implemented.

Of course, there's no guarantee that just because something worked for one individual it will work for everyone else too. As such, before concluding on any specific course of action, try following up with some questions: How will doing this help our business perform better overall? How will doing this harm our business? What are some ways we can measure these outcomes so we know if things are working out as expected?

4. Plan

A business plan is a document that outlines your goals, the resources you need to achieve those goals and an eventual exit strategy. There are many different types of plans: startup plans, growth plans, financial plans, marketing plans...the list goes on. But all business plans have one thing in common: they’re all meant to help you succeed.

5. Implement

Now that you have a plan, it's time to get started. Keep in mind that the sooner you start implementing your business idea, the faster you'll see results. Here are some tips on how to implement your plan:

  • Write down what needs to be done and when. This will help keep you on track and ensure that each step is completed within its allotted time frame.

  • Set deadlines for each task. Deadlines help keep things moving toward completion instead of leaving them open-ended or forgotten altogether.

6. Measure

You can’t improve what you don’t measure. That is why it is so important that you have goals and measure your progress. It doesn’t matter if it is a single goal or multiple goals, but make sure that the goals are SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely).

7. Improve

Improvement is a continuous process and mindset that involves the ability to adapt. When you improve, you’re using your knowledge and skills to get better at whatever it is you do. Improvement doesn’t happen in one fell swoop—it's an ongoing process that requires commitment, flexibility, and willingness to learn new things and make mistakes along the way.

It's important to remember that improvement isn't something reserved only for those who are new or inexperienced: All human beings have the capacity for improvement—we just need to tap into it!
